MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor marked her presence in Mumbai Fashion Week in a scintillating attire made by designer duo, Pankaj and Nidhi.

The young designers received a standing ovation, as models dressed in modern attire made the audiences' heart flutter with their charm.

Kapoor, who stole everyone's thunder, was elated to be a part of a show that promoted emerging designers.

Digressing from their signature style, the designer duo scorched the ramp with their exquisite designs and unusual colour palette.

Kapoor said the fashion circuit has revamped in recent times, adding that it was an honour for her to showcase Pankaj and Nidhi's latest collection.

Jackson websites shut down over violating copyright

LOS ANGELES: A Canadian memorabilia dealer who worked with Michael Jackson's mother on a tribute book, and whose websites used the singer's image and music, violated copyrights held by Jackson's estate, a judge ruled on Friday.

A federal judge in Los Angeles granted an injunction blocking entrepreneur Howard Mann from using the websites "michaeljacksonsecretvault.com" and "MJgives.com" and other similar domain names, saying he had infringed the dead singer's intellectual property.

"There is undisputed evidence that (Mann) intended in bad faith to profit from use of Jackson's name, by registering multiple domain names containing his name or the initials 'MJ' to sell Jackson-related products," U.S. District Judge Dean Pregerson wrote in his ruling.

The executors of Jackson's estate filed the case against Mann in January 2011, 18 months after the "Thriller" singer's sudden death in Los Angeles from an overdose of the surgical anesthetic propofol.

The estate holds the copyright to Jackson's image and music for the benefit of the singer's mother Katherine and his three children.

Judge Pregerson sided with executors, who claimed that the websites run by Mann used copyright protected clips of Jackson's song "Destiny", a logo featuring the self-styled "King of Pop" and art from the posthumous concert movie "This Is It".

Mann has worked with Katherine Jackson on several projects since 2009, including a 2010 "Never Can Say Goodbye" coffee table book featuring recollections of her son, as well as a DVD and calendar featuring what were described as never before seen photos and video.

All were sold through the "secretvault" website. Mann claimed he obtained the rights to the material at a bankruptcy sale involving members of Jackson's family several years ago.

The "www.michaeljacksonsecretvault.com" site failed to load on Friday and Mann could not immediately be reached for comment.

Howard Weitzman, a lawyer for Jackson's Estate, said a court date set for September 4 will involve "how much in damages the Michael Jackson Estate is entitled to collect from Mann and his various entities."

The two executors, John McClain and John Branca, said in a statement they were "extremely pleased" with the Court's ruling which will prevents Mann from "continuing to unlawfully profit from Michael Jackson and his intellectual property." (Reuters)

Hollywood star Portman weds her 'Black Swan' love

LOS ANGELES: US actress Natalie Portman has married French dancer Benjamin Millepied, her partner of two years and the father of her 14-month-old son, People magazine reported Monday.

The traditional Jewish wedding was held Saturday evening in the Big Sur coastal resort, some 390 kilometers (240 miles) northwest of Los Angeles, according to the magazine.

Photos leaked on microblogging site Twitter showed a grinning Portman in a tea-length, A-line dress with a sheer overlay that covered her arms and shoulders, and a long veil, in keeping with Jewish custom.

The dress was designed by Rodarte, a label run by two of Portman's longtime friends, and the company behind her purple Grecian-style Oscars gown in 2010.

Millepied wore a blue tuxedo, People reported.

The vegan meal -- following the actress's preferences -- skipped the wedding cake and ended with French "macarons": rich, typically meringue-based cookies.

The couple, who live in New York, met in 2009 while filming "Black Swan," the ballet thriller for which Portman won an Academy Award.

Millepied choreographed the dance scenes and acted in the film.

"Avengers" helps power Disney profit in quarter

LOS ANGELES: Walt Disney Co quarterly earnings rose 31 percent, exceeding Wall Street expectations, lifted by higher spending at theme parks and the blockbuster "The Avengers" superhero movie.

The media and theme park company reported on Tuesday earnings per share of $1.01, beating the 93 cents a share that analysts had forecast, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Net income rose 24 percent to $1.8 billion for the three months ended in June.

Driven by "The Avengers," which has made more than $1.4 billion worldwide, studio income increased to $313 million from $49 million a year earlier. Chief Executive Bob Iger announced the company had signed a deal with "Avengers" director Joss Whedon to write and direct an "Avengers" sequel, and to help develop a Marvel-based TV series for the ABC broadcast network.

The studio results offset a decline in earnings at Disney's powerhouse ESPN sports network, which the company said was due to the timing of deferred affiliate fees. Overall its cable TV unit, the company's largest, increased by 1 percent to $1.86 billion.

Advertising at ESPN grew in the quarter, helped by NBA games. Looking ahead, Iger said he was bullish about ESPN's ad prospects "for the next number of months, maybe for the next year."

Advertising revenue at ABC "decreased modestly" from lower ratings partially offset by higher rates, Disney said.

At theme parks, earnings rose 21 percent, the result of increases at its Tokyo theme park, where the company collects management and other fees, and which was impacted last year by a temporary suspension of operations following the March 2011 earthquake.

Park results also improved due to a new cruise ship and more guests at Disneyland in California, where the company just completed a major expansion that includes "Cars Land."

Disney "showed great momentum across all their business lines," said Lazard Capital Markets analyst Barton Crockett, who rates Disney a "buy." "I thought it was a great quarter."

In after-hours trading, Disney's shares declined 0.8 percent to $49.40, down from their earlier close of $49.81 on the New York Stock Exchange.

Disney shares are near a lifetime high and the drop may have been due to profit-taking, Crockett said. "The stock had a very good improvement into the earnings report." (Reuters)

Willy Wonka director Mel Stuart dies at 83

Mel Stuart, the director of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, has died aged 83.

His family said he died at his Beverly Hills home after suffering from cancer.

He began his career mainly directing documentaries. The 1971 adaptation of Roald Dahl's book was Stuart's second feature film.

He was nominated for an Oscar in 1965 for his documentary, Four Days in November, about the assassination of John F Kennedy.

According to his own website, Stuart made more than 180 films.

However he was best-known for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder.

He embarked on the ambitious musical fantasy after his 11-year-old daughter asked him to make a movie of the book she loved. She was also given a cameo in the film, along with her brother.

ulie Dawn Cole, who played Veruca Salt in the movie, told the BBC she had "fond memories" of working with Stuart.

"He always said he didn't like kids and that he made a movie for adults that he hoped kids would like," she said.

"He created an amazing film that has lasted and endured against all odds as it wasn't popular at the time."

The actress last saw the director in October in New York when the cast reunited for the film's 40th anniversary.

"He was on form - barking orders as he always had done, organising a photoshoot," she said.

"I'm glad I saw him last year - it's one hell of a legacy to leave."

The Omen screenwriter David Seltzer, who got his break from Stuart at the age of 26, described him as "a mentor by way of drill sergeant, much-feared boss and much-loved friend".

Born in New York, the director had originally aspired to be a composer, but after university decided to instead pursue a career as a filmmaker.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Stuart worked with award-winner David Wolper's production company to make dozens of documentary films.

Stuart's films included three editions of The Making of the President, Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and the groundbreaking film Wattstax, which focused on Los Angeles' black Watts community in the aftermath of the 1965 riots.

After leaving the Wolper Organisation in 1977, Stuart went on to independently direct and produce numerous other documentaries such as AFI's 100 Years-100 Movies, Inside the KGB and the Ripley's Believe It or Not TV series.

His other features include the 1969 comedy If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium, starring Suzanne Pleshette and Ian McShane.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta, and three children.

For whatever (hilarious) reason, the Kim Kardashian sex tape is back in the news.

A new Star Magazine report swears Kris Jenner played an integral role in the release of her daughter's naked video with Ray J in 2007, as an insider tells the tabloid:

"Kris was totally involved in arranging the sale of Kim's tape... The video already existed, and Kris was there every step of the way as a middleman brought in to market it to an adult entertainment company."

However, this insider is adamant:

Overall, when it comes to Jenner, the mole holds nothing back:

"Everything she does in this world, every decision she makes on her daughters' behalf, is based on greed and publicity. And has nothing to do with her family's stability or happiness."

Kristen Stewart to Avoid On the Road Red Carpet

Robert Pattinson will make at least two public appearances next week: he will be a guest on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Monday and then sit down with Good Morning America on Wednesday.

But the question remains: When will we next see Kristen Stewart?

It's unknown right now, as sources confirm the actress will NOT appear on the red carpet for the On the Road premiere in London, set for August 16.

"She’s running scared at the moment," an insider tells Radar Online of Stewart, who has laid very low since making her affair with Rupert Sanders public. "If she appears at the London premiere, it will detract people from the movie itself and Kristen doesn’t want that at all."

Of course, the real focus of fans will be on the MTV Video Music Awards on September 6, as Kristen and Rob are scheduled to present at that ceremony... together!

In the meantime, friends claim Pattinson has been drunk dialing his ex, trying to decide if there's any way he can forgive her.

'True Blood' Season Premiere Recap: Turnin' and Burnin'

Finally, True Blood has returned, and everyone’s favorite sexual romp and supernatural variety show has some ‘splainin to do. At the close of Season 4, we were left stunned and hungry as the giant pain in everyone’s rears, Marnie, was vanquished and a whole new can of worms was opened in the episode’s final minutes. And we open this season on some answers, a few particularly nasty messes, and some real turning and burning.

First, and most handsomely, we’ve got our newly-formed dynamic duo: Eric and Bill. After killing Nan Flannigan before she could administer her final order from the Authority (the true death), the vampire buddies killed her and her guards in a fury of flying guts. (Remind me to look into the series' corn syrup budget. It’s sure to be mind-blowingly enormous.) Realizing they’re royally screwed (you know, on account of Bill's being a king), they zip around and clean up the gooey mess before heading out of town. There’s just one, tiny, flaxen-haired problem: Sookie is, at that same moment, fighting off Debbie. They both sense her fear, and Eric delivers the hope-crushing line in his post-rejection anger: "F**k Sookie." Bill, however, rushes outside to her aid only to be captured by Authority henchmen. They’ve been burned. (Literally. Those silver nets look painful.)

Of course, these aren’t vamps who often allow themselves to trapped for too long. In what is apparently the clown car of trunk spaces, Eric and Bill manage to remove the nets and puncture a hole in the gas tank, blowing the car to smithereens and allowing them to escape with only minor injuries (but they looked so cozy in there together!). When Bill is injured, Eric refuses to leave him behind. Apparently the sting of Sookie’s double rejection has made them some sort of band of Eskimo brothers.

Their bromantic moment doesn’t last long, because out of the rubble comes Nora, Eric’s “sister” and lover... and a chancellor of the Authority (which sounds important, so it must be). She rips out her Authority cohort’s heart and promptly makes out with her “brother” while we all pause our televisions (thank you, almighty DVR) and collectively look up the definition of "sister" in the dictionary. Clearly, we are the ones who’ve been applying that term incorrectly since the dawn of time, because Eric Northman cannot be wrong. Either that or this show just crossed the incest barrier.

Luckily, Nora is Eric’s sister in the same way Pam is his daughter. They were both turned by Godric, and in these vampiric families the expression of familial love is also sexual. What else are they supposed to do? Not have sex with eachother? They’re all so sexy. Well, Eric and Nora do have the “appropriate” reaction (they “f**k like champions") and we, like Bill, are all a little uncomfortable with the situation, no matter how flattering the light was on both pantsless vampires.

Just before the Authority magically swoops in to re-kidnap the fugitives, Eric answers his untraceable phone (because he always has all the answers) and Alcide delivers some unknown message, but we know what it is thanks to his Season 4 finale discovery. He’s informing Eric of Russell Edgington’s return, and the quick shot of some henchman feeding an undisclosed “creature” a lifeless human like the T-Rex eating a goat in Jurassic Park is our confirmation. Alcide undoubtedly thinks letting the vamps in on the news will bring them back to protect Sookie, but the Authority has other plans. While one of Nora’s friends hands them their new identities, the henchmen descend with a phantom voice pulled from an episode of Inspector Gadget who demands, “Do not f**king move” right after killing the woman who was about to be their way out. It’s just too bad. It would have been hilarious to make Eric go by his new name, Ike Applebaum, a few more times.

Katrina getting readfy for Dhoom 3 with Salman Khan

Aamir Khan has told his directors that he is not quite yet ready for an action flick and needs more time.

Katrina Kaif is busy shooting for Ek Tha Tiger in Thailand with Salman but she’s also preparing for her character in Dhoom 3. And she is being trained by none other than Salman Khan. A crew member has commented saying that she’s working extremely hard for both her roles and it’s all starting to take a toll on her as she lacks energy on the shooting sets. He also added that she is doing action packed scened during the day as directed by Kabir Khan and at night, she’s training to do Jackie Chan type of flips and sommersaults for Dhoom 3.

"I’m starting to feel that this movie will never start it’s shooting. It’s been getting delayed for so many months now. As for Katrina, hardwork pays off."
